As reported, for most of 2011, Health Net Federal Services (HNFS), the contractor for the TRICARE North Region, is rejecting higher level E&M claims submitted by any optometrist.
However, after much work by the AOA, HNFS has agreed to make changes to their claims review and payment processes effective immediately.

At the time of our November eUpdate, the deadline for incorporating Version 5010, a revised set of HIPAA transaction standards, was January 1, 2012. CMS recently announced that it would not pursue any enforcement action until March 31, 2012.

As we reported in June, on January 1, 2012, MassHealth intends to require electronic claim submissions, unless the provider has an approved waiver. MassHealth just released this waiver and if your office selects to continue with paper claims after January 1st, you will need to complete this form.

All entities covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that submit transactions electronically are required to upgrade from Version 4010/4010A to Version 5010 transaction standards by Sunday, January 1, 2012.
